Barb Borgerding AOM

Barb Borgerding—April 2025 Athlete of The Month

1.Tell us about yourself, your family, your occupation, hobbies/interests. My husband Phil and I have been married for 46 years, we have 6 children and by the end of this year will have 28 grandchildren.
I like playing cards and doing puzzles and spending time with my family.

2. When do you start CrossFitting? Why did you start? Why do you continue now? I started CrossFit in 2018 after saying I would never do CrossFit. I got to the point that I needed to do something and Phil and Theresa kept encouraging me to join. I have not regretted that decision. Right now, my motivation is to just keep moving with the mobility issue I have with my knee. CrossFit really helps me with that.

3. Do you remember your first WOD? What were your thoughts after your first WOD? I don’t remember my first WOD except that it was HARD.

4. What do you enjoy most about CrossFit? I enjoy the camaraderie at the box. Right now, I have to scale every movement but I still get a good workout. The coaches are exceptional and help me figure out what to do to make a good workout. Thank you all.

5. What is your proudest CrossFit moment? Every time there is something that I am not sure that I can do and I do it.

6. What is your favorite movement or lift? What is your least favorite? I have always liked the Dead Lift. My least favorite are burpees.

7. Have you had one or two challenging CrossFit goals that you've achieved recently? What are your current goals and how close are you to reaching them? Before my surgery I tried to do an Air Squat but could never do it. Since my surgery that is totally out of the question. I am so amazed watching others do squats so well.
My goals right now are to just keep moving and doing the best that I can.

8. What makes CrossFit different from other fitness programs that you might have tried in the past? Many years ago, I went to Curves. That was a rotation on different machines. CrossFit is more challenging and has more variety.

9. What impact has CrossFit Benedictus had on your life, in and out of the gym? Prayers before each workout makes CFB a very special place to belong to. With the suffering board it helps to offer up the hard movements for those who are having struggles in their lives.

10. Tell us about your nutrition and how it has changed, if any, since starting CrossFit? I have been trying to eat healthier. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

11. If you could write a WOD for the classes to do, what would it look like? I am so grateful to those who write the WOD’s so that I don’t have to. That is one of the perks of CFB, a coach is there to tell you what to do and you just do it.

12. What advice do you have for others about the importance of the dedication of taking care of yourself, of investing in yourself? It is so important to keep moving especially with age. All of the sudden you are older and things just don’t work the same. Just Keep Moving!

13. What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit or who is thinking about giving it a try? Come to CFB and try it out. This box is a special place where working out and fun are on the same level. We are a community where everyone helps you reach your own personal goals.

14. Open Forum: Thanks to Doc and Cindy Carroll for starting CFB and for Andy and Mindy McDonald and Joe and Bridget Thomas for continuing to take care of us at the box. A special shout out to all of the coaches for their dedication and help.

Great experience! Full disclosure, this is not easy and the results don’t happen overnight. But as far as a good challenge goes and translates to strength and muscle groups that you use every day, nothing beats CF Benedictus! Been a member sin
